Will I be charged for repairs?

You may be charged for repairs if the damage was caused by you, your guest or through misuse, neglect or accidental damage. Scape will not charge you for fair wear and tear or for repairs that are the landlord’s responsibility, such as structural issues or equipment failure through normal use.

When charges may apply

  • Resident-caused damage: broken furniture, damaged walls, stains, burns or missing items.
  • Misuse: damage caused by using appliances, fittings or facilities incorrectly.
  • Guest damage: you are responsible for the behaviour of your visitors.
  • Unreported damage: issues found at check-out may be chargeable if they go beyond fair wear and tear.

If something breaks through normal use, report it through the Scape app so the maintenance team can assess it. General maintenance and repairs caused by normal wear, equipment faults or building issues are not usually charged to residents.

If you accidentally damage something, report it as soon as possible. Prompt reporting helps the team make the area safe and arrange repairs, and is always better than waiting until check-out.

If you are unsure whether a repair may be chargeable, speak to reception and they can explain the next steps.
