What should I prepare before moving to Scape from overseas?

Moving overseas is a big step, so a little preparation goes a long way. Before you travel, make sure your key documents, payments and arrival plans are all sorted.

Your pre-arrival checklist

  • Keep documents close: have your passport, visa or immigration status, university documents, student ID details and Scape booking confirmation ready in your hand luggage.
  • Set up rent payments: arrange TransferMate or your chosen payment method before you arrive, so paying from overseas is simple and secure.
  • Plan your phone connection: you may want to buy a UK SIM card when you land, or arrange one in advance.
  • Think about banking: app-based accounts such as Monzo, Starling and Revolut can be useful for international students.
  • Pack the essentials: bring bedding, towels, kitchen items, chargers, a travel adaptor and clothing for changeable UK weather. If you’d rather pack light, you can order bedding and kitchen packs through Scape’s partner Unpacked.
  • Consider contents insurance: this can help protect your personal belongings while you live with us.

It’s also a good idea to update your emergency contact details in your Scape account and confirm your arrival time with your building team. If you have questions before you travel, contact the Scape team. We’ll help you feel at home from day one.
