What should I do while waiting for an emergency repair?

While you are waiting for an emergency repair, focus on keeping yourself and others safe. Contact reception directly to confirm the issue has been reported and that the right support is on the way.

What to do while you wait

  • Move away from danger: if there is flooding, a leak, smoke, sparks or damage, move to a safe, dry area.
  • Do not attempt DIY repairs: never try to fix electrical, plumbing, heating or security issues yourself.
  • Avoid affected equipment: do not use sockets, appliances, taps, showers or doors that may be unsafe.
  • Use communal spaces if needed: if your room has no heating, move to a shared heated area while the team responds.
  • Keep reception updated: tell them if the issue gets worse, spreads or starts affecting other residents.

If water is leaking near electrical sockets or appliances, do not touch anything electrical. Move away and contact reception immediately.

For life-threatening emergencies, such as fire, serious injury, smoke or immediate danger, call 999 first. Once you are safe, let reception know what has happened so the Scape team can support you and coordinate with emergency services.
