What does my deposit or advance payment cover?
Your advance payment and damage deposit cover different things.
Advance payment
The initial payment you make when booking is advance rent. It is used to confirm your booking and secure your room once the payment has cleared. This amount is deducted from your total residence fee, so it counts towards the rent for your stay rather than being an extra charge.
Damage deposit
Your damage deposit is separate from your rent. It is held against possible costs at the end of your tenancy, such as damage to your room, missing items, cleaning charges or outstanding payments.
When your stay ends, your room will be checked. If everything is in good condition and there are no outstanding charges, your damage deposit can be returned. If deductions are needed, you’ll be told what they are for.
To help protect your deposit, keep your room clean, report maintenance issues through the Scape App and check your handbook or Scape account for guidance before you move out.
